I’m an open-minded dev. There are rarely hard and fast rules that apply everywhere. I’m happy for you to have an opinion. BUT…
The use of types in code is SO deeply ingrained in me that I find it hard to think about code without them.
Well-defined interfaces are the bedrock of a stable, understandable, maintainable system. They highlight any shortcomings fast too.
You can like dynamically-typed code. But I will never understand why you like it.
Been thinking about this a lot lately.

I’ve also been watching Pluribus (after watching some other Apple TV shows like Invasion and Foundation) and I think Apple TV shows should mostly be movies.
We get you have big budgets, stars you can call on for cameos and directors with big cinematic ideas. But really… they’re all far too slow!!
Our 2025 Family Playlist has Maren Morris’s “Kiss the Sky” from The Wild Robot soundtrack. A really beautiful song.
But I had it on headphones the other day and I can’t help thinking the chorus needs proper
drums and some crash cymbals to drive it a bit more.

Software devs: Does anyone work in a team that labels code changes as AI generated or not for the purposes of code review? Are you gathering any data on how comments/changes are affected by AIs involvement?
I’m curious not just about the results, but about the process of measuring.
Turning off BBC Breaking News notifications. It’s got out of hand. I don’t need to know about:
– every single celebrity death
– every gory detail of every mass shooting ever including video of the event
I suspect I won’t miss it and don’t really know why I had it on.

I found a really old disk with an “oldfiles” directory on it that contains the code for my first ever website (maybe my second? I don’t actually remember)

Honestly December is so frickin overwhelming. You just bounce from one bit marketing hype to the next from mid-November to mid-January. It’s relentless and I hate it.
I'd love to do advent of code, but, I'm sorry to say, I'm reading many, many school emails and figuring out which kid needs to take which things on which days and it's all I can do not to get that wrong.
Today I broke a number input.
