Video of iOS Shortcut that checks ingredients for citric acid – see the post above for what this is about.

I’m a frickin genius.
Context: my kid is mildly allergic to citric acid and citric fruit. Brings out eczema. And citric acid is in SO many things. And it’s painful checking ingredients lists for it.
This morning I wondered: can my phone OCR the ingredients list and check it?
My first thought was to make a little web app. But there doesn’t seem to be a OCR in web browsers yet.
But I KNOW my phone can get text from images.
Then…
Apple Shortcuts!!!
CHECK THIS OUT!!!

Aah. Boo. Looks like you need third party APIs. Weird, especially as iOS does this to n device now. It must be coming, right?

Hmm. Is there a browser API that does OCR of images?
Thinking out loud…
🤔

Some more on using objects instead of arrays today. Well, it’s actually about PHPStorm settings.
Five minutes at a time though.
It’s fun making these!

Yesterday I posted a nearly-silent video, with just some music, about PHP arrays and objects.
"That was weird", I hear you say.
Yeah. Maybe.

An experiment. This is for my #WordPress folks. But it's PHP in general too.
Here's 5 minutes on how you can, and some reasons why you would want to, convert PHP structured arrays to objects.

Privacy is there.

Does @ivory not do content warnings yet?

This seems pretty ironic, if you know what OWASP ZAP is.

I have the weirdest cold today. For some reason it’s streaming out of my eyes!! Never had that before.
No it’s not Covid. I tested.
My wife is being a legend letting me rest and doing ALL the things.

I was reminded by @jonathanbossenger that we once did a team “Pub Quiz” and it had a “Tech or Pokemon” round.
So… for your Sunday entertainment… are these tech? Or Pokemon?
1. Hadoop
2. Cuttlebell
3. Delphox
4. Ariados
5. Celestia
6. Metapod
7. Summingbird
8. Sawk
9. Feebas
10. Sudowoodo
11. Keras
12. Numpy
13. Ekans
No spoilers please! I’ll post answers as a reply sometime tomorrow.

Is there, like, a browser-based, Markdown notes app like Bear or Obsidian that uses the filesystem API to save local files?

Nice to see omg.lol getting some good attention on hacker news! 😃

Just got access to @ivory and yes, it’s everything! 🐘🤍🤍

Gosh I agree with @chriscoyier
I’ve stopped so many people thinking that they want to build an app.
But then I see people who play Wordle in an app. The App Stores are where everyday people go to download things for their phones!!
I love the idea of a PWA as much as the next web dev, but how do we get people to even know that that’s a thing they can do?

I got some bread lames (super sharp scoring blades!) for Christmas. Simple designs for now (was in a hurry) but already making my bread pretty!
