I maintain that the most unrealistic things in Project Hail Mary are:
1) The world collectively puts their faith in experts/scientists.
2) The countries of the world collaborate to save themselves from a disaster that’s 20 years away.

Project Hail Mary is a great movie. Takes itself less seriously than The Martian did. Surprisingly faithful to the book! They do the end very fast, and there are places where complicated things have been simplified of skimmed over. But they just about cover everything. Which is impressive!
My wife knows nothing of the book and enjoyed it too.
Off to see Project Hail Mary in IMAX tonight. Not been this excited for a movie in a long time! 😃

I can’t remember which newsletter it was in but my whole family are now simultaneously playing this stupid thing and it’s simple and joyous!
Watched an interview with Ryan Gosling about Project Hail Mary where he mentions The Abyss as a good sci-fi film. Not seen that for years. Where can I watch it?
OK. I am not a mad crazy sportsball man. I like to watch about 7 or 8 Six Nations rugby matches in a year.
Now… my kids get to watch vast amounts of whatever TV they like every day (it’s fine, we limit screen time!). But I want to watch two hours of rugby match in peace (or with other interested parties) and I swear it’s just impossible.
So bloody annoying. 🤬
Anyway. Epic and brutal match tonight. Huge congrats to France.

I was sad to learn that Playground uses a service worker to intercept requests and send them to PHP-on-WASM. I thought it used some WASM version of Express, and I wanted to coin the term "The SPEW Stack”. For SQLite, PHP, Express, WASM.

The new WordPress in your browser thing is neat. Playground is a really innovative project.
But it’s being touted for personal apps. Which I think is bonkers.
It’s 137MB clean download, and you have to run PHP, a database and a web server in your browser.
Just write some JavaScript.
Vite 8 is out.
We shouldn’t have to celebrate this or point it out, but the lack of AI here is notable. Nothing in the announcement posts and I can’t see any trace of it in the repo (with a cursory glance)

I tried hard to make it last. But my iPhone 13 Mini was finally despairing at me and the 17e was too good value.

For those interested, I added a brief update to this to say what my position with using AI/LLM coding tools on Turbo Admin is.
Short version: I've used some "fancy autocomplete" on it, but that is all I've done and all I plan to do. This is not and will not be vibe coded or agent-assissted.
