My gym is shut for refurbishment. And I never thought I’d say this but: I miss swimming!

I’m a terrible swimmer. And I had several formative experiences that put me off swimming. (Nothing dangerous.)

But I’ve been developing some technique and finding it less difficult and very “mindful”.

And I miss it.

Yesterday I had never coded in Lua or built anything on the PICO-8 "fantasy console” (a little emulated retro computer).

Today I have a very basic cookie-clicker game!

Yes, the visuals are terrible. (I'm just experimenting with sprites and drawing right now). And there's no music/sound.

Turns out, the mechanism I used to get user switching working in Turbo Admin also works for a simple form of plugin install!

This isn't live yet – it needs polish. But it's a good prototype and means it's coming in the not-too-distant future!

Spending a small bit of Friday night accomplishing the “impossible”… 🪄

Oh frick my poor brain!

Two days diagnosing really quite complex stuff with weird self-referencing code loops, odd hosting setups, trying to make code testable/fakable without breaking backwards compatibility, and a real head-scratcher solved (hopefully) with a bit of code spelunking.

Tired. But I LOVE it!!!! 😅

I get why recent updates to code libraries/packages may be a measure of quality.

But an absence of updates may also be a measure of quality.

Yay! I did bike riding!! Nothing big but it’s the first time in a long time so I’m happy.

That main arterial cycle route they were improving is still a complete fucking mess. 😡

This is not helped by the fact that, as well as Christmas, our lives contain four birthdays of close family and three birthdays of close friends.
