This is a fascinating discussion on the admin menu UX in #WordPress
https://make.wordpress.org/core/2026/03/24/rethinking-left-navigation/
Turbo Admin has had menu hiding since August 2024. I’m currently adding a better interface and item pinning.
It’s a bit different in that it’s user-specific. But that’s just how Turbo Admin work. It’s WordPress “your way”.

I was working on Turbo Admin again last night. It’s all (apart from the fuzzy search) hand-crafted vanilla JS at this point. Mostly for compatibility: I don’t want to depend on a library that might be needed by something else.
Stuff like this also validates that decision though.
@retrogamecorps Just got the newsletter. The "Retro Game Emulation on the MacBook Neo” video is private?
So Turbo Admin will soon work in #WordPress Playground. Just not with REST API access because <very complicated reasons>.
But it’s very cool. Especially the automated on-boarding clean up! Experienced devs don’t need all that.
Video shows Playground without Turbo Admin and then with. SO much cleaner!!
Here’s what I’m dealing with in Playground.
A browser extension injects a content script into an iframes page.
The iframe’s container has a service worker that intercepts http requests and routes them to a PHP-in-WASM web server running in the browser.
This does not seem to work for fetch requests from the injected content script.
So much browser tech at work. It’s amazing. But so hard to debug.
This week’s AI abomination in my inbox.
A poster for a local high-ropes company featuring child who has an elbow on the wrong side of their arm and who clearly didn’t get a safety briefing and is about to lose their fingers.
And some very random and meaningless icons.
Make it stop!!!
Content warning:Politics. War. Thought that I can’t keep inside my head.
Is it really not obvious to some people that when you hit someone it makes them mad and angry and likely to hit back?
What the fuck is the point of all this? Really? It’s fucking 2026. Is this all we’ve got?
I got Turbo Admin (my browser extension) working inside the weird WordPress update iframe this week.
And then I thought “Now it works in iframes it’ll probably be easy to get it working inside Playground. That will be fun!”
…
It is not easy. It is not fun!
Oh my. Finally fixed weird bugs involving browser extensions, iframes, WordPress and then a bit of Firefox being strange too.
Phew!!!
By the way, if you enjoyed the simple press-and-hold mechanic of 100jumps.org, I made a fun two-player, pass-and-play game that is equally simple and weirdly competitive.
(This is an homage to a Taskmaster “Final Task” that we enjoyed)
Just checking this isn’t just me.
Monday: “Security vulnerability in Claude Code allows override of system workspace trust settings allowing remote code execution”
Tuesday: “You can now enable Claude to use your computer… it opens yours apps, uses your browser, fills in spreadsheets – anything…”
Me: No. Please don’t do that!!!

I occasionally bow accidentally since my daughter started taekwondo class, which I take her to. There’s something very respectful about it. I like it.

What did they do with 80 billion? What do they have to show for it? Where did all those dollars go? I really don’t understand.
Content warning:Short review of Project Hail Mary movie – attempting no spoilers but warning you anyway.
I maintain that the most unrealistic things in Project Hail Mary are:
1) The world collectively puts their faith in experts/scientists.
2) The countries of the world collaborate to save themselves from a disaster that’s 20 years away.

I’ve had several conversations about LLMs today, and they all had a bit of this in them.

Project Hail Mary is a great movie. Takes itself less seriously than The Martian did. Surprisingly faithful to the book! They do the end very fast, and there are places where complicated things have been simplified of skimmed over. But they just about cover everything. Which is impressive!
My wife knows nothing of the book and enjoyed it too.
Off to see Project Hail Mary in IMAX tonight. Not been this excited for a movie in a long time! 😃
Noooooo!!!!!
I’m reminded today of “Literally, all I do…” from a few years back. And this post seems somehow very relevant to today.
I can’t remember which newsletter it was in but my whole family are now simultaneously playing this stupid thing and it’s simple and joyous!
