Oh gosh. I have some crappy virus or something. Like my brain can’t get out of first gear. Have slept. Have had day off work. But feel so weird and tired.

Reading a book on simplicity and clean coding.

There’s a downloadable PDF summary! Nice! Fits so well with the theme! 🙌

To get it, I have to fight through a dumb cookie content and sign up for a mailing list.

Not simple! I paid for the book! Give me the resource!!! 🤬

My son has been watching bits of Severance with us.

The last couple of days he has been making a Macrodata Refinement game. Identify the scary numbers.

In Scratch!

And there are proper scary numbers.

It’s so clever and funny.

He says “it’s not ready”. But when it is I’ll be sure to show you.

Scratch though… 🤯

I had a stupid number of Twitter accounts that I'd spun up for side projects and other crazy ideas.

Finally in the process of shutting them all down.

That's a few users less than you had before, Elon.

Our team leader put “Walk the Jira Board” on our meeting agenda today.

Sadly, it was not preceded by “Open the door” and “Get on the floor”

(And now it’s in YOUR head too!!!)

I don’t talk about work much. This is a personal-opinions account.

But it’s such a freaking honour to work on a product that I used and loved for so long.

Weirdly, now I make it, I don’t really use it much.

But now I’m inside, I see the attention to detail and the drive to do things right. It’s as impressive as I suspected it was.

I’ve had a chance to compare with some of the competition this week, and I’ve come to see that what I make is genuinely superior.

Gave blood again today. Properly back on a regular cycle after a ten year break.

It’s SO efficient now. Hardly any waiting around. Love it.

We’ve never done Elf on the Shelf. But we spontaneously started making my daughter’s huge bunny plushie do stuff while she’s at school.

She was a busy bunny today!!

Just found an old joke…

“I’ve really had it with my dog,” said the first guy to his neighbor. “He’ll chase anyone on a bicycle”

“Hmmm, that is a problem,” said the neighbor. “What are you thinking of doing about it?”

“Guess the only answer is to confiscate his bike!”

Does anyone actually read BOOKS on their desktop?

I love the idea of web-based books, but the truth is I load them up in tabs but then rarely go back to them. I just really struggle to think of my laptop as a device I READ on.

Examples:

themediocreprogrammer.com/

resilientwebdesign.com/

ethanmarcotte.com/books/respon

Do you read books on the web?

I read books on the web
I don’t read books on the web
I’ve not tried/other

Three tyre valve tools sit on a colourful tablecloth in their unopened packaging.

Buy one!!!! They’re only £3.

I’m sure I’ve told this story before, but…

We have never had tyre valve issues.

A few months ago we had a tyre valve issue. Fixed in 30 seconds by the roadside mechanic (after 15 minutes looking for the tool!)

Afterward I swore I would buy everyone in my family a valve tool.

I did not.

A couple of months later the exact same thing happens to my sister while on holiday in France.

I now have these. And I fully expect to never have tyre valve issues as long as it is in my glove box.

I finally got to reading @zuzana_kunckova's excellent article on diversity in tech.

I've been fortunate to work in teams with a lot of diversity, and I value it SO much and I know, from experience, that it's good for teams.

I endorse and support this message. Thank you Zuzana!

I’ve been shutting down some old web projects recently. It’s so weird looking back 6 years at when I attempted to build privacy-aware analytics.

I had this idea at about the same time Paul Jarvis had the idea for Fathom and started building it with @dvk

It was a great experiment. But I’m glad someone else took the idea and ran with it properly.

It seems my 9-year old child has written “a two voice poem using expanded noun phrases and figurative language".

What the hell are we teaching primary kids? This is ridiculous!

(She's very good at it though)
