OK. Turbo Admin v1.21.0 is feature complete. Docs are done. I’m releasing tonight (I hope)!

It’s been a year, but this is a good one.
– Playground support
– Hide/pin menu items
– Hide the core command palette hint in the admin bar

This is kinda interesting and fun. The next release of Turbo Admin will track (internally, 100% privately) command palette usage and admin site visits. These are for future features, but I can show them! There’s something compelling about it.

Must. Resist. “Turbo Admin Wrapped” at new year!!

I somehow lost my swimming goggles two weeks ago, and my shorts and gym padlock at the weekend.

Baffling.

I do NOT lose thing. And I get very cross when I do.

If you use DBngin on MacOS and are running out of disk space, their latest update (build 82 from 21st May) downloads a 500MB installer several times a day and keeps it in ~/Library/Caches/com.tinyapp.DBngin/org.sparkle-project.Sparkle/PersistentDownloads/

I just reclaimed 50GB of space from here!

I’m very curious about the bird-themed, not-instant messenger app Roost. Seems weirdly … fun?

It has a slightly vibe-coded smell, but if anyone is brave and wants to send me a bird (or snail!) here’s my invite:

roostsocial.app/invite/2HXHUZ Join the flock on Roost! Get a free bird when you sign up with my code 2HXHUZ.

Occasional reminder post that I made a ridiculously competitive little 2-player, pass-and-play game as an homage to a Taskmaster final task. And it’s so much fun.

Just press and hold the red button to throw the duck. Agree a target score or time limit. And go!

I forget how hard properly doing product is.

I have a Turbo Admin release coming. Code is pretty much done. But docs need writing and I’m probably spinning up a newsletter for it too (for reliable product updates).

There’s a lot of non-tech stuff to do too!

I was somewhat amused that a life ring in Brixham – home of “one of the biggest pirate gatherings in the world“* – has the What3Words code “BURGLARS-SHIPS-MOVEMENT”

Back from a brief holiday. I was glad to be near the coast where it was significantly cooler than at home. 🥵

I did some family IT support and I was reminded how crap everything is if you’re not in it all the time.

We needed to reconnect an Echo Dot to new WiFi:
– No Alexa app
– An old Amazon account insisting a code gets sent to a phone number we don’t have. (Very glad to get that fixed!)
– Sending email with magic-open links to a device that’s doesn’t have email on it.

So frickin hard!!

Quite possibly no one here cares. But you are my audience right now.

I think I do the admin-visits-only to show which sites you visit most. Perhaps even opt-in?

Command uses will be for future personalization ("frequently used items").

Amazing the power a browser extension has. I freaked myself out with what data I was gathering!!

The next Turbo Admin (WordPress browser extension) release, will add some local/private usage stats.
– Command palette opens
– Counts of commands on each site (with per-command totals)
– Visits of each detected WordPress site.

But I realised that tracking visits is weird. Especially as I detect ANY WordPress site – not just sites you can log into.

Wondering:
– Should I track visits at all? It's interesting but serves no real purpose.
– Should I ONLY track Admin pages, or when logged in?

This whole “hottest May ever” thing and the Big F’ing El Niño thing…

I’m developing a proper anxiety about climate change.

And I can’t (really) do shit about it. It needs global leadership from people with real power.

I fear for my kids. But highly suspect that even I will see awful consequences.

Spent a morning doing some recreational coding. Properly getting into some data design and gnarly issues. No agents. Pure code. So good to exercise my brain in this way. I took my time. Thought about what I was doing. And very nearly one-shotted a feature. And cool stuff coming soon as a result. 😃
